Our Memory Care Program at Nor-Ridge

The Memory Care Program is an excellent example of how we strive to meet the individual needs of our residents. The individuals who reside in this section of our facility are adults who have been afflicted with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.

The Memory Care Program was designed by Licensed Nurses to enable a "Safe Yet Free Theory" approach to the changing needs of these individuals. This "Free Theory" recognizes that mental, physical and emotional necessities vary from one individual to another. This resulted in the flexible and adaptable envioronment that is our Memory Care Facility.

The physical attributes that the Memory Care Unit possesses include semi-private room accommodations to promote socialization, private bathing facilities to enhance dignity and open floor plans for dining and recreational programs.

The design for this unit consists of creating an atmosphere that contains the "comfort of home." This is achieved by using swings, rockers, a garden and period memorabilia to enhance memory wellness.

The activities held in this section of our establishment are theraputic. They involve a "real life" approach that helps maintain, or possibly even improve, the resident's circumstances. A typical day in the Memory Care Unit may include group barber or beauty shop visits, a night at the movies, a bus trip, snack preparations, table setting, house cleaning, daily news broadcasts, exercises, gardening or whatever they wish the day to bring.

In addition to the individualized care that the residents receive, the program also acknowledges the support needs of the families. Specialized educational and group support services are available and encouraged for all.

Stop by for a personal tour or call Colleen Pollock, the marketing/community relations director, to inquire about our facility or voice any concerns. She can be reached at 724-863-2100.
